16th Iberoamerican Chemistry Olympiad

Brazil will host the 16th edition of the Iberoamerican Chemistry Olympiad (OIAQ), a chemistry competition for secondary-school students. The 16th OIAQ will be held 18–26 September 2011 in Teresina, Brazil. The Ibero-American Chemistry Olympiad is a competition for students under the age of nineteen and not at university.

Hands-on chemistry - manipulating molecules using virtual reality and molecular modeling

Use easily accessible virtual reality applications to make the audience "feel" how molecules behave in complex biological systems asuch as enzymes, membranes and viruses.

The potential energy surface is the central concept in computational chemistry. Born-Oppenheimer approximation suggests that in a molecule the nuclei are essentially stationary compared to the electrons. This concept makes the concept of molecular geometry meaningful. But this fundamental principle has its limitations.
