An effective way of celebrating IYC 2011 is to write articles in popular chemistry in local newspapers in native languages, so that even common man may be able to understand the importance of Chemistry in his life. The explanation should be simple, yet be able to effectively communicate the message.

How can we increase public appreciation and understanding in chemistry? To me it appears that one simple way is to write articles in Popular Chemistry in local newspapers in native languages. This is a task which requires a lot of expertise and is, perhaps, more intrigue than writing a research paper. One has to present the topic in a lucid manner without oversimplification and keeping the content as per the spirit of science. The message should be clear and direct, yet interesting and understandable. The possible topics may be, amongst many others, chemistry in kitchen, chemistry for fighting cancer, chemistry for health, etc.

Topic: chemistry in kitchen, chemistry for fighting cancer, chemistry for health, history of chemistry, environment, water quality Audience: general public, decision makers
