Brazilian contest Combines IYC and World Science Day for Peace and Development
The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Brazil has announced that “Chemistry—our lives, our future” will be the theme for its 2011 Writing and Drawing Contest of the World Science Day for Peace and Development. In addition to commemorating World Science Day on November 10, this year’s contest also celebrates the International Year of Chemistry.
Targeted to high school students, this annual competition offers a variety of prizes for drawings and written works that deal with a particular science topic. This initiative is promoted by UNESCO in collaboration with educational and scientific institutions.
Students may submit works or drawings until September 5, 2011. Registration forms and contest rules can be accessed at http://eventos.unesco.org.br/diadaciencia (in Portuguese).
Last, year UNESCO-Brazil received 563 drawings and 141 written works. The winners were from all over Brazil: Manaus, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, João Pessoa, Irecê, Parintins, Itaboraí, Taquara, Belo Horizonte, Sao Luis, and Wansbeck.
