Topic : "Let there be light!
From oil-lamps to LEDs: a materials story"

Venue : C-6 Hall, Chemistry Department, Fergusson College.

Date : 16.09.2011 (Friday)

Time : 5.00 pm

Abstract : From oil lamps, to incandescent light bulbs, gas lamps, tubelights,
halogen lights, CFLs, and semiconductor LEDs, light sources have
become brighter and more efficient over time. Much of this is thanks
to the use of novel materials. Lighting however, accounts for a lot of
the energy used over the world and the cost of light throws up some
surprises! Lets take a fascinating historical journey through the
bright world of light!
