On June 25, 2011, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., citizens of Hanover, Massachusetts, and their friends will celebrate Hanover Day. NESACS has reserved a table as a civic organization in order to introduce the participants to the International Year of Chemistry. The organizer of the event, Prof. Christine Jaworek-Lopes of Emmanuel College, Boston, will do one or two hands-on activities at the table with her students. The planned activities involve:
• Making a UV detector bracelet and discussing why we use sunscreen;
• Bringing goldenrod paper and discussing acid/base chemistry.
In addition, Prof. Jaworek-Lopes plans to collect funds for the PUR project and hand out copies of the Earth Day edition of Celebrating Chemistry.
