The XIX Mendeleev Congress - One of Cornerstone Events of the IYC in Russia
The XIX Mendeleev Congress on General and Applied Chemistry will be held September 25-30, 2011, in the city of Volgograd, Russia.
According to the Resolution of the 63rd session of the UN General Assembly the tear of 2011 is announced as the International Year of Chemistry with the motto “The Chemistry – our life, our future”. The XIX Mendeleev Congress will be one of cornerstone events of the IYC in Russia.
The Mendeleev Congress is the most important scientific gatherings of the chemistry community in Russia. Mendeleev Congresses are usually organized every 4–5 years in famous scientific and cultural centers of Russia. The First Mendeleev Congress took place in Saint-Petersburg in 1907 and was dedicated to the memory of the great Russian scientist D.I. Mendeleev (1834–1907). Later on, congresses have been organized in Moscow, Leningrad (Saint-Petersburg), Kazan, Kharkov, Kiev, Alma-Ata, Baku, Tashkent, Minsk. The XVIII Mendeleev Congress was held in 2007 in Moscow and was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Mendeleev Congresses in Russia.
The XIX Mendeleev Congress is organized under IUPAC umbrella by the Russian Academy of Sciences, D.I. Mendeleev Russian Chemical Society, Administration of Volgograd Region, Ministry of Education and Science of Russian Federation, Russian National Committee of Chemists, Russian Union of Chemists. This Congress will unite leading Russian and foreign scientists including Nobel Prize winners, Russian and foreign companies, dealing with the production of chemicals and materials.
(Foto) Volgograd (Stalingrad) was selected as the home city for the XIX Mendeleev Congress because it is the city with a heroic history and one of the largest centers of chemical industry in Russia.
