HKU Chemistry WeekâOur Life, Our Future (Oct 4 - Oct 13, 2011)
Everything you hear, see, smell, taste and touch has its own ‘chemistry’ of existence and ‘chemistry’ to interact with you. They include clean water, rocks, contact lenses, fuels, foods, textiles, dyes, prescription drugs… In the face of scarcity of global resources and energy, chemistry has been taking up a vital role to solve problems worldwide. The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has declared 2011 as the International Year of Chemistry (IYC) to celebrate the achievements of Chemistry and its contributions to the well-being of mankind. As part of IYC, we shall bring you to renowned chemists in dialogue sessions, and enlighten you with activities to show how chemistry is a vital part of our lives!
