The Mitsui Chemicals International Symposium on Catalysis Science (MICS) represents a unique opportunity for chemists from around the world to discuss the importance and accomplishments of catalysis science. At MICS2011 under the theme of Catalysis Science and Its Contribution to Sustainable Development.

International Symposium on Catalysis Science (MICS2011)

 

With the aim of “Contributing broadly to society through innovations and the creation of materials while keeping in harmony with the global environment”, Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. has been organizing the Mitsui Chemicals International Symposium on Catalysis Science (MICS) every two years since 2003.

 These symposiums have been attended by world-renowned scientists in the field of catalysis science, namely, the Nobel Laureates in Chemistry Professor Ryoji Noyori, Professor Jean-Marie Lehn, Professor K. Barry Sharpless, Professor Robert H. Grubbs, Professor Richard R. Schrock and Professor Roald Hoffmann.

At MICS2011, to be held on March 9th and 10th, 2011, at Kazusa　Akademia Hall, Kisarazu, Japan, under the theme of Catalysis Science and Its Contribution to Sustainable Development, plenary lectures will be given by the Nobel Prize Laureates in Chemistry Professor Yuan T. Lee (Academia Sinica, Taiwan), and Professor Sir John E. Walker (Medical Research Council, U.K.).

Furthermore, the year 2011 coincides with the 100th anniversary of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry awarded to Madame Curie, and is designated as the International Year of Chemistry 2011 for the celebration of the achievements of chemistry and its contributions to the well-being of humankind.  

If chemistry is our life and our future, then chemistry in general and catalysts science in particular are centrally placed to solve many of the challenges facing man today.  If we want environmentally friendly high performance materials and energy saving production processes then the contributions of chemistry and catalysis science can not be underestimated.

This symposium, therefore, represents a unique opportunity for chemists from around the world to discuss the importance and accomplishments of catalysis science and celebrate IYC 2011.
