2 days syposium dedicated to the emerging field of ionic liquid based materials. Four topics will be given: synthesis, characterization, theory and applications. Goal: present new results, exchange experience, find new original ideas

The past 10 years have seen the development of new exciting hybrid materials based on ionic liquid-like units, among others imidazolium or quaternary ammonium units. The strong and / or complex interactions of these ionic salts with inorganic species, matrices or precursors lead to the development of original materials.

In this frame, not only the syntheses pathways have to be adapted but also a methodology has to be developed in order to properly characterize the newly synthesized materials, as well as theoretical calculations and modelling strategies.

Associating these various sides of materials chemistry, the development of new hybrid materials for highly challenging and urging applications like dye-sensitized solar cells, fuel cells, gas sequestration or catalysis is expected.

This two days symposium entitled “ionic liquids derived materials” aims at bringing together the various actors of this development and help to make this emerging community identified in the materials chemistry landscape.
