A networking breakfast to celebrate the role of women in Chemistry as we link up with colleagues in the Gambia.
“Women Sharing a Chemical Moment in Time” will bring chemistry women together worldwide for a breakfast meeting on Tuesday January 18th 2011. This is chemistry in any shape or form from biochemistry, medicine and biotechnology to earth sciences, chemical physics, materials science, and chemical engineering. In addition to networking, the aim is to celebrate the pivotal role of Marie Curie in chemistry on the 100th anniversary of her winning the Nobel Prize for Chemistry.
We plan to link women in Cambridge with women in The Gambia using social media and Skype.
In the two weeks leading up to the networking breakfast we will be using the Cambridge AWISE Facebook Page to get women to write a paragraph introducing themselves, where they work, a little bit about their research or their work and how chemistry underpins what they do.
Then on Tuesday 18th January 2011 we will be holding a networking breakfast in the Biochemistry Department Sanger Building, Tennis Court Road Cambridge from 8.15 – 9.45am. At this meeting we will ask 3 Gambian-based women and 3 Cambridge-based women to speak briefly about their work and share their enthusiasm for chemistry via a Skype link.
