Women Sharing a Chemical Moment in Time

A panel discussion entitled “Chemistry in Life, Women in Science, Women in Chemistry” on the role of women in science in general and in chemistry in particular will take place on 18 January 2011 at the Presidium of the Academy of Science of the Czech Republic. The debate should address chemistry and IYC2011 in general and to the place chemistry holds among other sciences. Why do young people see chemistry as a rather boring topic and who is attracted by chemistry nowadays. Several distinguished women scientists will talk on why they were attracted by research work in chemistry. Is chemistry still seen as a masculine subject field? How do women differ from men and how can they help develop chemical science? Do they have a different approach in research work? Is sixth sense helpful in chemistry? How to cope in their roles of scientists and spouses/mothers?

The event is scheduled at 10 am local time. First, short videos presenting the participating scientists will be shown, followed by the above-described panel discussion. Connections to other networking events will be made during the panel debate, depending on the availability of our partners.

The Networking Breakfast will be preceded by a press conference starting at 9 am local time to present activities related to the International Year of Chemistry in the Czech Republic.
