This informational seminar will highlight the topics of oil exploration and production. Audience members will gain an understanding of the technology and challenges to meet the energy demand of our world.
Has a distant oilfield, drilling rig, offshore platform or related upstream facility ever caught your eye? In a further moment of reflection, have you also asked what are those people doing off in the distance, and how do their efforts result in numerous products that help shape society?
This presentation will explore aspects of oil exploration and production that are not common knowledge. The intent is to provide you with a greater appreciation for the technology and infrastructure created over a relatively short period of time, about 150 years, to help meet the energy demands of the world. Particular emphasis will be placed on the nature and composition of the various mixtures produced and how their changing properties create the need for constant awareness, real-time monitoring and various problem solving methods.
| Topic: | energy, networking, celebrating chemistry, oil chemistry | Audience: | general public, research scientists, industrial chemists |
