The Training Seminar on Nano Technology and its application was held on 30 September 2011 at the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon with the participation of over 100 industrial representatives and graduate students. The Chairman of the organizing Committee was Dr. Sisira Weliwegamage, Sr. Lecturer, College of Chemical Sciences.
The Chief Guest Hon. Tissa Vitharana, Sr. Minister of Scientific Affairs was pleased with the achievements made by the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon over the years and he thanked the Institute for Organizing this important seminar.
Addresses were delivered by Prof. Sotheeswaran, the President of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon and Prof. J.N.O.Fernando, Hony. Rector of the College of Chemical Sciences and Mr. N.M.S.Hettigedera, Chairman of the Steering Committee IYC 2011(Sri Lanka). Mr. Hettigedera explained the progress made by the National Secretariat towards achieving the goals of IYC 2011. Therefore, this was also an important opportunity to create awareness of the IYC 2011 activities among a good cross section of Scientists.
Keynote address on Nano Technology Towards Basic Human Needs was delivered by Prof. RMG Rajapakshe, Senior Professor in Chemistry, University of Peradeniya and visiting Professor, Research Institute of Electronics,Schizuoka University Japan.
