Presentations to bring about awareness regarding use of ethanol and dimethyl ether as alternative and better fuels in place of gasoline and diesel respectively which will help to reduce pollution, greenhouse gases and ever increasing petrol prices.
India is the second largest producer of sugarcane in the world after Brazil. However, molasses, a side product of sugar industry are not utilized efficiently to produce ethanol. Brazil is increasingly blending ethanol with gasoline since 1976 and has succeeded in reduction of total life cycle greenhouse gas emissions by 61% in 2010 (US EPA).
Secondly India has very large natural resources of biomass which can be easily converted into dimethyl ether via methanol. Dimethyl ether is an excellent substitute for diesel engine vehicles which has very low emissions of NOx, CO, 0% particulate matter and hence environmentally benign. China is already using consierable amount of dimethyl ether as an alternative for diesel. So why not India?
Deliver presentations to bring about awareness amongst all students, teachers, general public and especially the decision makers of India to blend ethanol in gasoline and reduce pollution, greenhose gases, use of petrol & petrol prices.
The first presentation will be on Sept. 9, 2011 between 11.00 to 12.00 noon at Goa Science Centre, Miramar, Panaji, Goa, India for High School students and their teachers from all over Goa.
