TITLE: 2011 National Science Club Month Celebration   DATE: September 2011   IMPLEMENTING AGENCY: Pambansang Kapisanan ng mga Kabataan Samahan ng Agham (PSYSC, Inc.)   COOPERATING AGENCY: Department of Science and Technology–Science Education Institute  (DOST-SEI)   BACKGROUND   The Philippine Society of Youth Science Clubs has been celebrating September as the National Science Club Month (NSCM) for six years. Through NSCM, the PSYSC has been encouraging the Filipino youth to get actively involved in the science clubbing movement and, at the same time, promote the public understanding of science, technology, and the environment.    As the umbrella organization of thousands of science clubs and its science clubbers, PSYSC conducts relevant activities to further emphasize their roles, their active participation to the issues concerning ST&E today, and to realize the relevance of science clubbing in our society. NSCM provides a venue for interaction among science clubs from various regions and also encourages non-affiliate science clubs to join our cause.   BRIEF DESCRIPTION   PSYSC, being the frontier of the science clubbing movement, continues to celebrate the NSCM activities to science clubs all over the country. As a new decade enters, the NSCM celebration breaks the conventions of science clubbing and is geared up for more relevant and fun innovations to actively involve the science clubbers in the issues of ST&E today.    There will be three activities in this year’s NSCM. These activities are: National Science Clubs Summit (Summit), PSYSC Science Olympiad (PSO), and Math-Sci-A-Ka. The main thrusts of this year’s NSCM are the following: interaction of science clubs, recognition of excellence, and active participation of science clubbing in our society.   TOPIC: Innovative Chemistry THEME: "CHEMERGY: Chemistry and Science Clubbing in Synergy."   Our activities are: SUMMIT --> September 3-4, 2011 PSO Eliminations --> September 3, 2011 Math-Sci-A-Ka  --> September 17, 2011 PSO Finals - September 24, 2011   SUMMIT: September 3-4, 2011   The National Science Clubs Summit (Summit) is a two-day activity open to high school science clubs affiliated with PSYSC. The activity includes lectures, workshops on popular sciences and the environment, team-building activities aimed to bond the participants, a venue for participants to present the achievement of their science clubs and a plenary session where participating science clubs can elect Regional Council Officers and present their plan during their term. It is conducted in 8 different sites nationwide as a kick-off activity of the NSCM celebration.   Target Venues and Estimated Participants

Math-Sci-a-Ka: September 17, 2011
The Math-Sci-A-Ka is a Luzon-based activity which caters to all elementary and high school science clubbers within the region. Math-Sci-A-Ka provides a venue to challenge our science clubbers mentally and physically through fun and educational science workshops and experiments which are relevant to some issues in science and technology today. This year, the Math-Sci-A-Ka will be more geared towards science topics and activities, and thus will embark on the field of Innovative Chemistry, exposing the science clubbers to its basic concepts and direct applications in the society through a series of fun experiments. The Math-Sci-A-Ka will also offer new Engineering Science Challenges this year, which will primarily deal on the concept of the environment.
The Math-Sci-A-Ka is composed of two brackets: Bracket I (Elementary) and Bracket II (High School). These two brackets will have different, independent sets of innovative Chemistry workshops and engineering science challenges. The Math-Sci-A-Ka is composed of three parts: Take Home Project, On-the-Spot Workshops, and Interactive Workshops.
Venue: PHIVOLCS - Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, Carlos P. Garcia Avenue, UP Diliman, Quezon City
Topic: innovative chemistry Audience: students, science clubs, teachers, education
