With the theme “Ignition: Fueling the Future Forward”, the Ateneo Chemistry Society of the Ateneo de Manila University seeks to enhance the appreciation of the central science in the campus through a week-long celebration that centers on how chemistry's applications are the beginning of a bright and passionate future.
Now in its forty-eight year, the Ateneo Chemistry Society (ACheS) continues to share the passion for chemistry inside and outside of the Ateneo de Manila University through engaging activities directed toward the realization that chemistry is part of everyone's lives. Equipped with academic excellence and project-based applications of chemistry as core competencies, the organization seeks to enhance the appreciation of the central science in the Ateneo community through a week-long celebration (ACheS Week) that centers on how chemistry's applications are the beginning of a bright and passionate future. ACheS Week will be celebrated from Sept. 12 to Sept. 16, 2011.With the theme “Ignition: Fueling the Future Forward”, the organization uses the image of igniting a flame as the starting point for many chemical processes to emphasize that the central science sparks future technological developments for the improvement of human condition. The whole week is directed towards making non-chemistry students touch and feel chemical concepts at work in their most mundane daily activities, and allow them to realize that so much of the future is invested in chemistry. Week-long projects include the ACheS Major Sale and ACheSibit, a sale of ACheS products and a full-blown exhibit featuring applications of chemistry. Each day will be marked with a major project. Marble Madness, an Amazing Race-type competition challenging participants with obstacles that must be overcome with knowledge of basic concepts, will open on Monday; a seminar on a relevant chemistry topic will be held on Tuesday; Wednesday will be marked by an entertainment-type quiz bee named Beat the Chem Geeks; Thursday will be for ChemWarfare, an interactive battle-type role playing game; the week will end with Kimikantahan, a party celebrating the achievements of the week. Appreciation of chemistry in daily life and excitement for the future will characterized in all of these projects, as the Ateneo Chemistry Society ignites with Ignition: ACheS Week 2011!
