As part of a week-long Community College program on how scientists from different disciplines view and interact with the environment, Arkema scientists will participate with chemistry experiments and demonstrations directed to excite and inspire economically disadvantaged middle school students in Pottstown, PA.
The Montgomery County Community College, through their West Campus, located at 101 College Drive, Pottstown, PA is conducting their Green STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) Program which is targeted at disadvantaged middle school children in the low-income Pottstown, PA area.
The program will show these children how scientists view and interact with the environment across a wide variety of academic disciplines. Arkema scientists Dana Swan and Anna Johnson will participate in the Wednesday June 29 portion of the program which is focused entirely on chemistry and which is centered around the International Year of Chemistry - 2011 theme for all of that day's activities, including brief lectures, discussion sessions, experiments and demonstrations.
This program is a good example of a public-private partnership that delivers meaningful science education experiences to youths in low-income areas and which wraps IYC-2011 into all chemistry-focused program activities.
