Seeing Atoms and Molecules

Interactive session by Prof V Lakshminarayan of the Raman Research Institute ,Bangalore at BGS National Public School,Bannerghatta Road in collaboration with ThinkQuest of Oracle Education Foundation

As a part of the International Year of Chemistry ‘2011 the BGS National Public School, Bannerghatta Road, is pleased to organize an interactive session on June 10th 2011 at 10 a.m. in the school auditorium .The highlight of the program is a talk on the topic Seeing Atoms and Molecules by Prof. Lakshminarayan from the Raman Research Institute, Bangalore.

The topic will essentially cover

  • Concept  of atom and its size
  • Why atoms and molecules cannot be seen with optical microscope and how quantum theory can help to see the nano sized objects
  •  Principle of Scanning tunneling microscope and atomic force microscope
  • Some examples and applications
