A web site designed to provide information on polymer chemistry, videos on famous polymer scientists and links of educational content related to polymers. http://www.iupac.org/polyedu/

Polymer chemistry is an important part of the technology world affecting as it does so many industries, yet it is not a major topic in most K-12 education programs and it is not well understood by the general public. As a tool for connecting with students, teachers and the public, the IUPAC Polymer Division has established an educational website that provides learning software, links to video interview with award winning polymer chemists, educational videos on aspects of polymer chemistry, contests for IYC, links to educational web sites related to polymers from around the world and other topics.  This project encourages collaboration to improve the web site, increase the number of topics covered and generally improve connection to the learning community and the public.

Topic: celebrating chemistry, chemistry education, conferences, educational materials, website, polymers Audience: students, general public, educators, teachers, secondary school students, high schools, school children

The IUPAC Polymer Division education website www.iupac.org/polyedu/ provides details on several IYC activities, including on the video and essay contest "A World Without Polymers" aimed at high school and university students. The contest and the winners were also feature in Chem. Int. Nov-Dec 2011 issue, online at  www.iupac.org/publications/ci/2011/3306/7_polymers_competition.html
