Exhibition at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona's Science and Technology Library showing the daily practice of chemists, their workplaces, material culture and experiments, from alchemical workshops to present day laboratories.
Spaces of Experimentation: The Chemistry Laboratory Throughout History will be on display at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona's Science and Technology Library from April 26, 2011 to May 27, 2011, and again in the fall.
The Science and Technology Library and the Centre for the History of Science (CEHIC) at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona have mounted this exhibition in recognition of IYC 2011. It showcases images, pictures and paintings of the chemistry laboratory featuring its origins and evolution, together with related books and materials from the Library.
The exhibition intends to encourage professional chemists and chemistry and science students to reflect on the origins and evolution of chemistry and on the places and spaces that shaped the daily work at the laboratory. A historical journey through the origins and the experimental cultures of the past helps to understand the present day identity of chemistry.
The exhibition has an online website at: http://www.bib.uab.cat/ciencies/expo/quimica/
| Topic: | celebrating chemistry, chemistry education, exhibition | Audience: | students, professional chemists, post graduate students, tertiary education |
