These activities are set up in order to communicate about the IYC, the important role of chemistry in life, and the significant contributions of women in chemistry.

Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University, along with the Chemical Society of Thailand and National Science Museum have planned a variety of activities to join the celebration of the International Year of Chemistry. These activities are set up in order to communicate about the IYC, the important role of chemistry in life, and the significant contributions of women in chemistry to general audience, especially to students in primary school to university. Activities include exhibitions, laboratory tours, chemical magic stage show, Chemistry-Got-Talent competition, ‘Chemistry for Life and Future’ photo contest, chemistry challenge for high school students, and entertaining but educating chemistry games.

With the generous support from Muzeum Marii SkÅ‚odowskiej-Curie through the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Bangkok, we will have a rare exhibition of Madam Marie Curie’s life to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Nobel Prize awarded to one of the greatest women in chemistry.  As importantly, exhibitions on the Chemistry in daily life through eyes of photographers will be on display. After the flooding crisis in Thailand, we have a special exhibition on the chemistry-related tools that Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University manufactured and distributed to help facilitate life of the victims during the crisis.

Audiences will enjoy hands-on activities from laboratory tour. Chemistry students will set up a series of exciting experiments in the laboratory and encourage the audiences to experience the lab activities. Especially for high school students, there will be a one-day-long nationwide competition to test knowledge in chemistry and skill in laboratory.

For people of both artist and chemist characters, photo contest in the topic of ‘Chemistry for Life and Future’  provides them with a chance to mix arts and chemistry and be awarded. Moreover, various amusing but educating games and other competitions will be taking place here. Basic chemistry knowledge will unexpectedly reward you with pride and prize.

The activities and exhibitions will be running from 10 am to 6 pm during March-April 2012 at the National Science Museum at Chamchuri Square. For more information, please visit www.chemistry.sc.chula.ac.th.
