The theme of the symposium is "Natural Products from African Biodiversity" and experts in the area will present papers on the structure elucidation, biological activity, potential use as drugs and synthesis of Natural Products.
THE 14TH SYMPOSIUM OF THE NATURAL PRODUCTS RESEARCH NETWORK FOR EASTERN AND CENTRAL AFRICA (NAPRECA)
The symposium will be held during 8 - 12 August 2011 at University of Nairobi, Chiromo campus, Nairobi, Kenya.
The theme of the symposium is "Natural Products from African Biodiversity" and the areas to be covered are:
- Structure elucidation of bioactive compounds
- Role of ethnopharmacology/ethnobiology in drug discovery
- Target identification and validation for diseases of concern to Africa
- Herbal remedies
- Screening of extracts for bioactivity
- Medicinal Chemistry
- Synthesis of Secondary Metabolites
There will also be a pre-symposium workshop a week before the symposium for young scientists on spectroscopic application in structure elucidation and bioassays.

NAPRECA has been promoting Natural Product Chemistry research in Eastern and Central African region since 1984. Its activities include organizing Symposia, Workshop and Summer Schools. Since its inception it has trained with scholarship from DAAD at least five students each year towards PhD and Masters.
We will stage the 14th Symposium to celebrate chemistry with members of our network.
