The main objectives of this workshop are: to generate a forum for a multidisciplinary discussion on protein folding, misfolding and design; to use this forum to introduce graduate students and young researchers to these research topics; to promote the interactions between senior and young researchers.

The workshop is taking place on March 18-21

Protein folding and misfolding plays an important role in the pathogenesis of several diseases that affect human beings; hence, the relevance to understand this fundamental phenomenon of protein structure. Protein folding can be studied from many different perspectives, including the understanding of the thermodynamic and kinetic aspects that dictate the formation of folding intermediates, to the understanding of the chemical interactions that make protein folding possible, to the more biological aspects about physiological function and protein folding in the cell. This workshop tries to bring together all these different perspectives, and at the same time, it provides an ideal setting for introducing students and young researchers to the field. The workshop will include research presentations and workshop discussions in the following topics: Theoretical protein folding, experimental advances in protein folding, molecular mechanisms of protein misfolding and recent advances and limitations of protein design.

The School of Chemistry is co-sponsoring this workshop in which proteins are studied not only from the biochemical point of view, but also from the physical and physico-chemical aspects of a protein, its interactions and behavior. Several scientists from USA, Argentina, Brazil and Mexico participate in this 3 day meeting.

Topic: workshops, chemistry education, networking Audience: students, professors, research scientists, universities
