The Boyle-Higgins Award and Medal of the Institute of Chemistry of Ireland goes to Prof. Frank Hegarty of University College Dublin (UCD). His Award Lecture, "A Journey through Organic Chemistry", will be given in UCD Thursday 27 Jan (School of Chemistry and Chemical Biology, 5 pm) to coincide with the Paris launch of IYC.

The Boyle-Higgins Award and Medal of the Institute of Chemistry of Ireland (ICI) goes to Professor Frank Hegarty of University College Dublin (UCD).  His Award Lecture, "A Journey through Organic Chemistry", will be given in UCD on Thursday 27 January at the School of Chemistry and Chemical Biology, 5 pm. The award is made for an outstanding and internationally recognised research contribution to the advancement of chemistry by a chemist of any nationality working in Ireland or by an Irish chemist working overseas. It is the first ICI Public Lecture of 2011, and is timed to coincide with the International Launch of IYC in Paris, 27-28 January.  The Award will be introduced by Dr. Paraic James, Dublin City University, current President of ICI.

Usually the Award Lecture is given once, but - at ICI's suggestion and because of the International Year - Professor Hegarty has kindly agreed to give it again in Galway on 14 April (Dept. of Chemistry, National University of Ireland Galway, 4 pm) and on 5 October in University College Cork (details to be announced later:  updates on www.chemistryireland.org ).

This series of lectures is part of ICI's 2011 programme to reach as wide an audience as possible in as many parts of Ireland as possible in IYC 2011.

Topic: chemistry, celebrating chemistry Audience: students, professional chemists, educators, professors, post graduate students, research scientists, teachers, general public
