Women chemist networking lunch, on the 18th January (13 h), at the Restaurant of the University of Aveiro. The importance of women in chemistry is celebrate with a talk on "The Structures of Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin”, on the same day at 15:30, at the Dept. of Chemistry, Univ. Aveiro, by Raquel Gonçalves-Maia.
The women of the Department of Chemistry at the University of Aveiro, in recognition of the “Women sharing a chemical moment in time” initiative, have decided to hold a lunch at the University restaurant on the 18th of January at 13:00. This lunch will allow women chemists to communicate, also, by web-based video-chats to other groups worldwide. This invitation is extended to all women chemists, students, technicians and teachers from all Departments at the University of Aveiro.
As we are celebrating 2011 as the International Year of Chemistry and the centenary of Marie Curies Nobel Prize, the importance of women in chemistry is also being celebrated by a talk, on the same day at 15:30, by Professor Raquel Gonçalves-Maia on “The Structures of Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin”. Dorothy Hodgkin was awarded the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 1964 for her work on the determination of important biological structures, including cholesterol, insulin, penicillin and vitamin B12, by x-ray crystallography.
