Molecular Modeling in Chemistry and Beyond

Under the theme of IYC2011 Chemistry -our life, our future, the Department of Chemistry at Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad organized and hosted a three-day workshop on Molecular Modeling in Chemistry and Beyond, on May 27-29, 2011. The workshop was intended to highlight the latest advancements in the field of computational chemistry, molecular modeling and bioinformatics and to provide extensive hands-on trainings to participants using various molecular modeling software such as VMD, Hyperchem, MOE, Gaussian03, Autodock4, Modeller, Easy modeller, BLAST etc. The workshop attracted over 45 young scientists including faculty members from different universities of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Peshawar and Sargodha. Overall, the workshop has been rated by the participants as an excellent event of 2011 at QAU. in Silico Tools in Medicinal Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry is holding a national, 4-day workshop titled in Silico Tools in Medicinal Chemistry in the current week during Dec. 22-25, 2011. The inaugural ceremony, chaired by Prof.Dr. Ghulam A. Miana (Director, Riphah Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences) was held on Thursday afternoon in the Department of Chemistry on 22nd. The Vice Chancellor, Quaid-i-Azam University, Prof.Dr. Masoom Yasinzai joined the event later. The workshop is multidisciplinary in nature and the participants are from quite diverse areas such as chemistry, biochemistry, bioinformatics and computational biology. A team of four resource persons and six coordinators along with the supporting staff is providing hands-on-training using software namely MOE, GOLD, AUTODOC, MODELLAR etc. which are used in computer-aided drug designing. The International Year of Chemistry IYC 2011 was celebrated with a cake having IYC logo. Besides, M.Phil. students of the Department of Chemistry displayed posters on topics related to medicinal chemistry and it was a great attraction and source of information for the participants.
