A fun story book for young children - written in rhyme - with the topic of chemistry woven into the story line. This book is the 10th in the Sibo Series, published by Lets Look publishers (Pretoria, South Africa). It is now available - visit the website for more details - http://www.sibo.co.

Sibo is a little girl with an unquenchable thirst for new knowledge.  "Sibo Mixes Things Up" written by Ginny Stone, is the 10th title in the Sibo Series - published by Lets Look (South Africa).  The book celebrates the fact that we are all chemists in our own ways - it introduces children to the subject in a fun, non-threatening way.  Sibo makes a mess, tries many things to clean it up before her mom comes home, and eventually finds one product that her neighbour gives her that works. She wants to know why this is.  This stimulates an interest in the subject and she goes on to find out more.

On the last page of the book - there is a Periodic Table of Elements and extra information for those who are interested.

BASF kindly funded 3000 copies of this book - via Sci-Enza (University of Pretoria) - to be given out to children during IYC.  Sci-Enza has also developed a delightful puppet show, loosely based on the book, to introduce the subject of chemistry to young children in a fun and innovative way (see http://sibosays.blog.com for more info).

The subject of chemistry is only introduced quite late in primary schools in South Africa and essentially this is silly - there is no reason for children not to know about the subject before.

We hope that this book sparks an interest in young children. The great thing is - that after IYC has finished - the book lives on to be read my many more generations of littlies!

Sibo is also out to save the earth - the green message of save water, recycle, reduce, reuse, save electricity is also an ongoing theme throughout all the books. She cannot do it alone - she needs all the childern in the world to help her out.

Many of the books in the Sibo Series have been approved by the SA Dept. of Education as resources for children / teachers.
