I am the IYC 2011 Coordinator at my school. We have already had all the students from Kindergarten to Year 6 performing chemistry experiments for which they will receive a certificate from the Australian Science Teachers Association. When the students were performing the experiments, my Year 11 and 12 students were mentoring the younger students throughout the process.

All the students from Kindergarten to Year 6 have also subscribed to scientific magazines that have increased their interest in science and particularly chemistry!

The students in Years 7 to 12 will now be participating in the Global Water Experiment as part of their science curriculum. They will also be completing the Australian National Chemistry Quiz which is an official IYC 2011 event.

We will also be having guest speakers from the chemistry department of a local university coming to talk to the students from Years 7 to 12 about the importance of chemistry to our everyday lives.

It has been an exciting year so far, and it will continue to be so until we break up for the summer holidays at the end of the year!!
