As a chemical educator who's dedicated to sharing the benefits to society brought about by the chemical sciences, I'm very excited about participating in outreach activities that contribute to the IYC 2011 celebration.

It is my good fortune to be the recipient of a grant from the US National Science Foundation ** ** to support an outreach project, known as Project iLASER, that spans the entire US-Mexico international border with a central theme of sustainable energy and powering the planet with sunlight.

Some Project iLASER activities were reported by local newspapers that published articles on events held in their vicinity.

The Imperial Valley Press published this article:

The same article was picked up by the Chicago Tribune:

In Harlingen, TX, the Valley Morning Star published the following article:

A presentation with many images that capture the spirit of the fun, excitement and adventure of the >4,000 mile Project iLASER journey along the U.S.-Mexico international border can be found by following this link:

The good folks in the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District (Harlingen, TX) produced a video from the Project iLASER event at Jefferson Elementary School in October 2011. The following link will direct to the video:

What an amazing personal and professional experience it has been to direct Project iLASER and to engage the hundreds and hundreds of young children living along the border!
