About:

The Illinois Science Council ("ISC") is an independent, volunteer-led, nonprofit organization located in Chicago, Illinois. ISC's mission is to engage, educate, and entertain the public – especially adults – about science and technology and their importance in our everyday lives. A subtext of our mission is to showcase the scientists and the research of the Chicago-area science institutions that make Chicago our country's true "City of Science." We are inspired and motivated by this quote by Carl Sagan: “We live in a society exquisitely dependent on science and technology in which hardly anyone knows anything about science and technology.”

Inspired by the International Year of Chemistry, ISC has created a series of unique programs for adults on aspects of chemistry in their daily lives. This spring we are offering programs on the Chemistry of Beer, Chemistry of Whiskey and the Chemistry of Chocolate. In the fall we will offer additional programs on the Chemistry of Coffee, Chemistry of Makeup, and Chemistry of Soap.
