I'm Paul Payawan and I'm a BS Chemistry student at University of the Philippines Diliman. Ever since I was in high school, I always wanted to learn more about chemistry. Chemistry, I believe, IS the central science because every natural phenomenon can be explained by knowing the basic and advanced concepts of chemistry. So when I learned that 2011 is declared as the International Year of Chemistry, I am so excited to be part of it. I want to promote, especially to the students in my country, the interest in science and chemistry in particular. I believe that what I will learn in the IYC 2011 can be used to help my countrymen in their everyday struggle against poverty. If we can develop more chemists in our country, I believe that we will be a more advanced society.
