About:

As a teacher of Chemistry for over 25 years, with experience in the secondary and tertiary fields, I have been an active promoter of the value of Science and Chemistry in the lives of my students and the wider community. I am a Chartered Chemist with the RACI (Australia) and when living in Australia took an active role in promoting Science Education in regional primary schools. Since 2000, I have been a part of the International Education system, working in Switzerland and presently in Hong Kong. Mr role as an examiner in Chemistry and Regional Workshop Presenter for the International Baccalaureate Organisation, brings a further dimension to my professional life. I am currently involved in the IBO's Group IV Experimental Sciences Review of curriculum and have been invited to be a part of the writing team for a new Science curriculum to be piloted in 2014.

The IYC 2011 is an opportunity for Science Teachers and other practioners to raise the awareness of students about the role Science and Chemistry increasingly plays in their everyday lives. Often the breadth and depth of influence Chemistry has on people’s existence and development is not fully understood. Similarly, their opportunities to play a part in the Scientific community in their future careers, is not always properly explored when they are deciding on career pathways.

I look forward to being a part of IYC 2011 and giving back to a field of inquiry that has made my professional life fulfilling and enjoyable.
