IYC Interests:Increase the public appreciation and understanding of chemistry
Encourage interest of young people in chemistry
Generate enthusiasm for the creative future of chemistry
My name is Patrick Joram Mugisha, a ugandan young scientist aged 28 years, I do hold a BSc in indsutrial Chemistry, MSc in synthetic organic chemistry research and do aspire to pursue a PhD that will combine organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry aimed at developing novel small molecules that can find application in discovering new anticancer and antimicrobial agents.
I am so passionate about contributing to knowledge and providing solutions to problems that are affecting the globe, more especially in the developing world where diseases such as cancer and aflatoxin poisoning are not recieving so much attention compared to HIV/AIDS and Malaria. My calling and destiny is in cancer research and so in particular drug discovery.
In 2011, as we celebrate the IYC, my celebration will be in telling Uganda how chemistry can change society if well understood, I hope to share on the risks of aflatoxin in the food chain and also fighting cancer through diet.
I wish to kindly ask any researcher in an institution or university out there who is willing to fund young scientists on internship of 3-4 months mainly in organic synthesis, medicinal chemistry or drug discovery to contact me if you have that opportunity. I love chemistry, i dream it, i share it and i live it. peace
