I coordinate the NSW Schools Titration Competition, a quantitative chemical analysis competition for senior secondary students of chemistry in NSW. The competition is over 20 years old and in 2009 involved over 1000 students. It celebrates and rewards excellence in quantitative analytical chemistry. In a 1.5 hour window, students must perform a titration to determine the unknown concentration of a weak acid.
It is an activity run by volunteer members of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute. I have coordinated the competition for 10 years.
I have been a secondary science and chemistry teacher for nearly 20 years and am passionate about motivating science students. I would like to affiliate the Competition with IYC2011 to continue to inspire students of chemistry to engage with their interest in chemistry and perhaps follow chemistry pathways in their careers.
