About:

Department of Environmental Risks of the MInistry of the Environment is responsible for the protection of environment from harmful effects of chemicals - we oversee the legislations and design strategies/implementation plans nationally. In addition, we are responsible for the management of the implementation of the global chemical management related agreements (MEAs) such as Stockholm Convention on POPs, Rotterdam Convention (i.e. PIC Convention), Basel Convention and we also oversee the implementation of the SAICM (Strategic Approach to the International Chemicals Management).

We are also involved in all UNEP chemical related negotiations and we participate in the OECD Chemicals Programme.

Moreover, we also coordinate the chemicals management nationally via our national Council on Chemicals Safety.

We cooperate with all stakeholders such as other relevant decision-making ministries (finance, trade, industry, agriculture, education, health, defence, interior, foreign affairs etc) industry, academia, NGOs and international bodies and institutions.

For IYC we wish to create specific thematic series of articles to be published in our monthly bulletin, organize workshop related to nanotechnologies and energy generation and publish several awareness raising but also educative brochures.
