About:

I am a Senior Lecturer and Associate Chair of the Chemistry Department at Simon Fraser University. I also Chair a committee of colleagues assigned to the task of planning events in recognition of the International Year of Chemistry and the BC Year of Science. The latter runs from Sept 2010 to the end of August 2011. SFU has a strong record of outreach and bringing science to the community. One of my colleagues is the Director of the Science in Action program at SFU (SIA at SFU) where elementary and high school aged children are regularly brought to campus for various science related activities. SIA has also organized science days on campus in recognition of other events (eg a Spooktacular show at Halloween with lots of activities and a science show put on by members of the Chemistry and Physics departments). As well, members of the chemistry department are regularly involved with activities at the Vancouver Telus World of Science and various schools throughout the Vancouver Regional District. As a continuation of our outreach activities we will be hosting some events to recognize the International year of chemistry and the BC year of science and bring more science to those of all ages in the general community.
