About:
I have masters degrees in Analytical chemistry (University of Pune, India), Polymer Chemistry (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY), and Science Education (City College of New York, NY). Between schools I worked as a research scientist/engineer at Tyco Electronics Inc. as part of the Materials Characterization Group. I enjoyed the industrial experience which married both my chemistry specializations. As a graduate student, I had the opportunity to teach undergraduate chemistry and chemical engineering majors. This gave me a taste of science education. Which brought me eventually to my current career - Science and Technology teacher at Riverside Engineering & Design High School in Yonkers, NY. I currently teach chemistry and coach the Riverside Robotics team. My school is 99% underrepresented and being a new high school we are short of resources. Teaching these students with minimal resources is a challenge. Trying to get students interested in STEM subjects - especially young women is one of my goals at this school. Since we are building new ideas and new curricula to teach chemical studies at our school, I am particularly interested in IYC-2011 and to learn new ideas to incorporate into the school program. Which I am hoping would not just be a one-year phenomena, but something that the younger students would aspire to do when they come to upper classes of science.
