I am head of the Department of Chemistry, Barbados community College.
I think it is important to be part of this celebration of the achievements of chemistry and also to highlight the need for responsible use of materials and be part of the movement to REGREEN the Earth which has been damaged by our consumption culture.
I will be producing a newsletter in collaboration with chemists from other academic institutions on the island for distribution to schools to share knowledge and heighten awareness.
My final year College students will also be working on sourcing natural dyes in collaboration with a sector of the fashion industry to assist them in greening the industry and minimising their ecological footprint.
I am fully in support of the year's activity.
