I am a high school chemistry teacher, advisor to Science Olympiad, Chemistry Olympiad, adopt-a-metric-highway, and ACS Chem Club. I also teach a research class encouraging students to do scientific research in high school. I am also a member of the US Metric Association. Now that we have the International Year of Chemistry, this is a perfect time to finally adopt the use of the International System of Units for education in the USA K-12th grade. Because our students are taught a dual-system of measurement in school, precious class time is being wasted and the cognitive load on our student's brain is increased. Students are not coming to chemistry class with a good sense of measurement. They struggle with milliliters and microliters. If they were taught SI in all classes, then they would be better chemists. This is the time to finally do it. Such good could come out of IYC if we put our minds to it. Please contact me, I am very very interested in making the Metric System "One System For ALL."
