I have been teaching chemistry and science for over 25 years in a variety of secondary schools. I have thoroughly enjoyed planning exciting lessons to enthuse the young people in my classroom to study chemistry at the highest levels. It has given me enormous pleasure whenever anyone of those younfg people has expressed a wish to read chemistry at university or used their chemistry at A'level to pursue a careeer in medicine, pharmamcy or dentistry.
I am very excited about participating in the IYC events next year; I believe this is a golden opportunity to raise the profile of chemistry, science and engineering in schools, as well as, at further and higher education institutions.
In my current role as Community Cohesion Co-ordinator at my school, I see IYC as a great way of linking with the scientific community in a global way. I am planning to host a number of events at my school during 2011 to promote the impact of chemistry in our lives.
