Hello and good greetings to you all.

My name is Junior Sam Ninkama Kauba. I am a Honors Candidate, attached as Organic Chemistry Tutor with the Discipline of Chemistry, School of Natural & Physical Sciences, University of Papua New Guinea.

I am targeting Research and Development of Natural Products for medical and Agricultural uses.

My interest in contributing to the Year of chemistry is by Creating awareness to Ethnopharmacognosy. Indigenous knowledge of traditional medicine from plants and animals is competitive and requires a multi-disciplinary approach as chemistry continually defines the particles and processes that make up a pharmaceutical drug. Traditional knowledge of chemistry is also clearly portrayed in dyes as medical therapeutics, in costume designs, cultural attires and symbolic arts.

As part of the Ongoing Protein Discovery program, I have participated by presenting findings of two studies (multi-disulfide peptides & defensin-like peptide) during the Science in New Guinea Conference 2009 and the 3rd Papua New Guinea Science & Technology Conference in 2010, respectively.

The post graduate students of the Discipline of Chemistry are involved in activities with unifying themes that coincide with IYC 2011. Upon Delegation of tasks on the 18th of February by DL_Chemistry, They have been assigned projects to work in collaboration, including Articles (a journal, magazine, brochures), Website for the Discipline of Chemistry, Journal Club, mini-symposium as well as related activities.

The team is honored to acknowledge UNESCO (the Ethiopian Chemical Society & Federation of African Chemical Socieities), IUPAC, UN General Assembly as well as All participating individual(s) / institution(s) and World leaders in Technology of Chemistry in various industries.

Thank you in advance.

Sincerely and with kind regards.
