John Harrison is a highly motivated and passionate technology entrepreneur - a trailblazer with a successful track record and a proven focus on delivery. He has been awarded over £200k in cash awards in recognition of his technical and commercial achievements to date and, through organic growth, has secured over £3M in international sales revenues in the Oil & Gas and Inks, Printing & Coatings sectors.
John graduated from Aberdeen University in 1996 with a BSc (Hons) degree in Environmental Sciences. Since this time he spent 2 years working as a Research Associate first at East of Scotland Water (ESW) Industrial Pollution Control Unit and then at Napier University, Edinburgh.
In 1999 John continued working at Napier University developing microemulsions technology for use in the remediation of oil contaminated wastes in the Oil & Gas industry winning a Royal Society of Edinburgh / Scottish Enterprise (RSE/SE) Research Fellowship Award in November 1999. He completed a PgC in Business Development at Glasgow Caledonian University the following year.
John is company co-founder and Managing Director for the Surface Active Solutions Group and Aboleo Ltd both set up in 2000 and restructured in January 2003. John is a named inventor on a range of patent applications that form the SAS IP portfolio covering surfactant designs, formulation techniques and microemulsion products, and the practical application of microemulsions technology in a variety of industrial areas. John has been responsible for many aspects of company development including strategy and implementation, internationalisation, product development & certification, sales and marketing, advertising, recruitment, setting up and running global premises and an international supply chain network.
2002 – 2005: Finalist in the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the year awards for 3 consecutive years.
Oct 2005: Winner of the prestigious Gannochy Trust Award of the Royal Society of Edinburgh for Innovation.
2002 – 2006: Winner of a Quest Award by The City of Edinburgh Council and 2 SCIS Awards for technical development and product launch from Scottish Enterprise.
Dec 2000: Winner of Who wants to be an Entrepreneur? Lanarkshire Development Agency (LDA - Scottish Enterprise) – 1st out of 83 companies in 2000.
Aug 2000: Winner DTI/SMART Scotland Awards I and II for SAS from the Scottish Executive.
Nov 1999: Winner of the Royal Society of Edinburgh / Scottish Enterprise (RSE / SE) Research Fellowship Award in Oil and Gas – one of 5 Fellowships in Scotland in 1999.
