I am A Science Research Specialist 2 of the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute. We specialize in the development of Nuclear Analytical Techniques and their Applications. The job involves a lot of Chemistry. We have a national project in Isotope Hydrology. Tandem use of Isotope Ratio Mass spectrometry, classical Chemistry, and Tritium and carbon dating measurements using liquid scintillation spectrometry, allowed us to study groundwater, surface water and rain water interactions. Applications of nuclear techniques complemented classic hydrology to obtain information about the mechanism of recharge and infiltration of rain to ground water systems, river or sea water intrusion in an aquifer, and infiltration of contaminated leachate from municipal landfills into the ground water. Several projects in Hydrology were useful to Bulacan water districts (Determination of Origin of Salinisation in the ground water), Bacolod City Water District (Studying the Mechanism of Recharge and Delineation of Protected Zones in the Watershed), Rodriquez and Payatas (Determination of the Extent of Landfill Leachate Infiltration in the Ground Water System), and Davao Water District (influence of river recharge on the ground water system).I am a registered Chemists and is able to practice my Chemistry profession even outside my legal duties in the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute. I founded my own laboratory in our remote province so that during my vacations there, I am still able to do some research work. I encourage participation to my research, all the teachers in the schools in that remote province. The RJ Sucgang Center for Research in the Natural Sciences provides researchers in the remote province a small laboratory equipped with basic lab apparatus , for them to be able to do simple experiments.
