I have has a varied career in chemistry - after completing my B.Sc, and Ph.D at the University of Manchester I worked as a senior research chemist at ICI's Corporate research laboratory doing fundamental reseach -it was an exciting place to be! After a career break I traineed as a teacher, worked in secondary schools and then took up a post as Senior lecturer in Science Education at Liverpool John Moores Unversity leading the science PGCE course and training the next generation of science ( including chemistry) teachers. I also directed a succesful Astra Zeneca Science teaching trust project on promoting Excellence in Primary Science. Now I work part time for the Association of Science education as their NW Field Officer and for the Science Learning centre NW. One of the most enjoyable parts of my work is leading the RSC courses in Chemstry for Non specialists -which involves enthusing biology and physics teachers about chemistry and giving them confidence to use exciting demonstrations and practical work to inspire their students -and encourage the chemists of the future.
