It is very essential to pay attention to ageing pipelines in our water distribution systems. Harmful chemicals which enter into the drinking water during the corrosion of the water pipes make water unsafe for drinking. Special surveillance of the public health is required in cases where lead pipes are present in buildings. Consideration of lead in drinking water should be a part of an overall lead reduction strategy.
Lead can also arise if lead solders are used in the installation of copper piping. The use of lead solders should be avoided.
