Some years ago, together with the Centro de Educacion Flexible, directed by Prof. Marcelo Queirolo, we have started working with very young people in order to encourage their interest in Chemistry. Since then, every Thursday we receive in our lab (Facultad de Química) two school classes in the "Quimica d+" activity. There, after a general introduction to chemistry, matter composition and chemical transformations, the pupils take part in various interactive experiments. Besides, we carry out each year many general public Chemistry popularization activities.

On the other hand, in 2009 our country developed the "Plan Ceibal" which gave each kid at school a personal computer to work in class. The aim of this was to give every child and their families a closer approach to technology. With this in mind, we have recently started a program to increase the children appreciation of Chemistry, through the use of this applied technology. This activity starts with the training of school teachers who will help children to collect a water sample and measure four quality parameters. Then, they upload the obtained results, they share their experiences and finally, they can see the general results for the whole country on the web.

For IYC 2011, we are certainly planning to continue with these activities. We hope that joining in this group will help us to share our experiences as well as to improve them in the future.
