About:

I am Mr. Asiimwe Francis Xavier. Currently, I head the Uganda Society of Professional Chemists' department for Foreign Affairs and Strategy.

Our specific interest and focus for 2011 is to highlight the contribution of women to the research and development of the chemical sciences. We adopted this strategic aim after we realized that, even if women and girls contribute immensely to the development of our country and sub-Saharan Africa as a whole, their contribution is very often overlooked.

We have organized events throughout the year 2011 that will achieve this aim by:

1. Advocating for the prioritization of affirmative action institutions for women in the science field

2. Availing women with funding opportunities so that they are better able to pursue higher education and conduct research

3. Encouraging communities and parents to support women to pursue education in the chemical sciences

4. Providing career guidance to graduate women so that they do chemical jobs and also pursue postgraduate education

5. Advocating for the rights of women already employed in the chemical industry
