IYC Interests:Increase the public appreciation and understanding of chemistry
Generate enthusiasm for the creative future of chemistry
MY passion for chemistry started at the age of 13 one wet Wednesday afternoon at the in the library at school where we were parked owing to the sickness of our English teacher. Chemistry gave me not only a fascinating hobby, collecting chemicals and equipment, & best of all making gunpowder but a direction in life leading to a 30 year career. world travel and a life in which no two days are the same.
It has not always been easy to find employment despite the first class Honours and PhD but persistence has always paid off. I have never been unemployed and have been able to provide for my family.
Why did chemistry turn out to suit me personally so well? simple it was a compromise - very conceptual - not too heavy linguistically- no essays / not too heavily mathematical. First of all I was a synthetic chemist. Making & breaking bods was everything but then I discovered how complex and diverse and dynamic analytical science is. Couple this to the complexity of protein biologic drugs and I have more than enough to fascinate me for further decades to come.
I am an enthusiastic user of LinkedIn & Twitter and would recommend these to all. www.linkedin.com/in/fmoffatt
I saw few word the other day that sum it up nicely: chemistry is not all in life but all life is chemistry
