1. The activities of the society among others include: to promote advancement of chemistry and related sciences in industries, research institutions and learning to ensure sustainable development and fully utilization of new ideas and knowledge. It uplifts the knowledge and skills of Tanzanian chemists, maintains high standards in the professional, enhances the usefulness of chemistry and provides technical assistance to industries and the public to ensure high quality and competitive industry produce through training and professional advice.

2. A National Event under the Theme: “Chemistry for Improvement of Life”

The celebration week shall be from 3rd to 7th October 2011. On the 3rd and 4th October, TCS is planning to hold a National Level event in Dar es Salaam, at the Karimjee Hall grounds that shall include a training workshop, exhibitions, traditional dances (ngomas),music, drama, speeches and an award giving ceremony to the best chemistry O – Level and A –Level students. The climax of the National event (4th October 2011) will be marked by a keynote address by His Excellence the Vice-President of the United Republic of Tanzania.

3.An International Conference

An International conference running from the 5th to 7th October 2011 will be organized to provide a forum for chemists to analyze and discuss recent achievements in scientific and technological researches in chemistry and the chemical industry.

The conference will be held by TCS together with the Theoretical Chemistry Society and the Eastern and Southern Africa Environmental Chemistry Network. Countries that have already shown interest to participate among others include:, Australia, Botswana, Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Rwanda, South Africa, Swaziland, Uganda, United Kingdom, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The conference will be held at a beach hotel in Dar es Salaam and about 100 delegates are expected to attend this event.
