I work for the Board on Chemical Sciences and Technology, which is a forum through which experts from the chemistry and chemical engineering communities give back to society, demonstrate the broader impact of their expertise, and help address critical societal problems. Using the independent consensus study process of the U.S. National Academies, BCST committees provide federal agencies with technical advice, assessment, and guidance on research directions to help agencies achieve their goals and objectives.
Boards of the National Academies consist of volunteer experts appointed to staggered terms supported by dedicated staff. Boards typically meet two-three times per years and serve as the subject area focal point for the Academy in its advisory capacity. Boards serve as an invaluable resource to identify important new developments in their field, to help frame statements of task, and to identify potential committee members.
